Strong Perthshire presence as young golf stars head for Home Internationals

Blairgowrie brothers Connor and Gregor Graham will team up at the Home Internationals this week.

The talented pair have both been selected to represent Scotland at Woodhall Spa in Lincolnshire from August 4 to 6.

And there is a further Perthshire presence with constantly-improving Auchterarder member Daniel Bullen also in action.

They will be coming up against the best young golfers from England, Ireland and Wales.

Due to COVID restrictions, this year’s boys’ and girls’ matches have been combined with players coming together to play for one trophy.

Younger Graham sibling Connor, just 14, heads south in stunning form after an incredible semi-final run at the Scottish Men’s Amateur Championship.

“Being selected for Scotland at the same time as my brother is amazing,” said his older brother Gregor, who is 17.

“It is great to see how well Connor is doing. He is in terrific form going into the week and he is a great matchplay player.

“I was so proud of him at the Scottish Amateur. The course suited him nicely and his iron play was amazing.

“I watched his semi-final and tee to green he was unbelievable. He just didn’t bag the putts which was a shame.

“But he will have taken a lot of confidence from his performance going into the next couple of weeks.”

For Gregor, he only has a couple of weeks left in the country before jetting off on an American golf scholarship.

He will attend Midland College in Texas and wants to sign off in style, starting at the Home Internationals.

“I’m really looking forward to the Home Internationals, especially as it’s my last junior year,” Gregor continued.

“The whole team is really strong and we’re all playing well. The course looks good and we will need to place our tee-shots on the correct side of the fairway. It’s very tree-lined.”

The team aspect of the Home Internationals is a nice change of scenery for Gregor.

He said: “It feels even better when you hole a putt because you know it’s not just for yourself. It’s to help the team.

“Even after your own game, there is a buzz about watching the rest of the team.”
