Strong gales blow roof off three-storey shopping centre in Russia

Shocked shoppers ran for their lives after a massive roof was ripped off a shopping centre by strong gales.

Video filmed by a motorist shows debris drifting in the air after a huge section of metal roof lifted up from the three-storey building.

The debris can be seen tumbling in the air before it falls onto the side of the compound, hitting onto some of the parked cars.

A pensioner is seen walking towards the shopping centre as the rubble comes crashing to the ground.

The incident was filmed in the city of Leninsk-Kuznetsky in the south-central Russian region of Kemerovo Oblast.

According to the local authorities, no injuries were reported during the storm.

The clip was posted on social media where it has been viewed over 24,000 times.

A spokesperson told local media: "There have been no causalities and no one was affected financially or physically."

Reports said that the local council had to use all their resources to clear up the debris in the aftermath of the severe storm.

Local media also stated that the affected shopping centre is a new building.

Leninsk-Kuznetsky is situated on the banks of the Inya River and is considered a key coal mining region.
