Strong-arm robbers steal phones in River North: police

Police are warning of several strong-arm robberies since Oct. 16, 2019, in River North. | Sun-Times file photo

Police are warning residents about a series of strong-arm robberies this month in River North on the Near North Side.

In each case, a group of one to three robbers has taken a victim’s cellphone by force, according to Chicago police. In several incidents, they also beat the victims.

The robberies have occurred:

  • About 9 p.m. Oct. 16 in the 300 block of North State Street;
  • About 8:45 p.m. Oct. 17 in the 800 block of North State;
  • About 2:30 a.m. Oct. 19 in the first block of West Grand Avenue;
  • About 5:30 a.m. Oct. 21 in the 700 block of North State; and
  • About 4:45 p.m. Oct. 21 in the 800 block of North State.

The suspects were described as males between 15 and 30 years old, according to police.
