Strip club shut down after dancers 'fleeced drunk customer out of £50,000'

A strip club accused of fleecing a drunk customer out of £50,000 has lost its licence.

The punter at SophistiCats woke up to find credit card receipts for the huge spend after purchasing nine litres of champagne and five Jägerbombs between 3am and 4.53am.

Another customer claimed £8,000 was taken from his account “without his consent” during a drunken visit.

Police accused the club of “taking advantage” of patrons, in a hearing in which its Sexual Entertainment Venues licence was revoked by a council.

Barrister Robert Cohen, representing the Met Police, said: “It is likely performers were encouraging alcohol consumption with a view to extracting money from those customers.”

The director of the Camden, North London, venue was not named.

In a witness statement, they claimed that the man charged £50,000 was not a victim and was “wealthy and entitled”.
