Striking new Sportage family SUV will be a Kia player

THE all-new fifth-generation Kia Sportage will have a sleek, futuristic design and a cutting-edge interior when it hits the road later this year.

And for the first time in the compact family SUV’s 28-year history, the Korean marque will launch a version specifically aimed at the European and UK market.

Kia says the newcomer has a youthful appearance and is carefully crafted to inspire customers with both its interior and exterior styling.

The front has an elongated but still recognisable trademark Tiger Nose grille linking distinctive, boomerang-shaped, daytime running lamps that create solid boundary lines for striking headlights.

Side on, crisp and flowing lines cut across clean body surfaces and a highlight is a chrome beltline that kicks up on to the rear to tie in with the sporty back spoiler.

A muscular rear includes tail lights that appear to be cut into the body and linked by a slim horizontal line – contrasting with a chunky lower bumper.

A sweeping, integrated, curved display with a large touchscreen and finely detailed air vents take centre stage cabin.

The hi-tech screen and an advanced integrated controller act as the nerve centre for intuitive driver and passenger connectivity and functionality.

And Kia promises the interior will feature sumptuous materials, dynamic colour options and energising detailing. More information on the UK model will be released in September.

Kia design chief Karim Habib said: “With the all-new Sportage, we didn’t simply want to take one step forward but instead move on to a different level in the SUV class.

“When you see the all-new Sportage, with its sleek but powerfully dynamic stance, and when you sit inside the cabin, with its beautifully detailed interior and first-class materials, you’ll see we have achieved those goals and set new benchmarks.”
