Striker the priority in January transfer window for West Ham

The hunt for a striker to support Michail Antonio continues at West Ham, with manager David Moyes confirming the club have been looking at a number of options recently, "we have knocked on the door of three of four really good players."

However no deal has yet to be secured, "We have had one or two offers for players either rejected or not available or the clubs want too much money in our eyes, so it is not as if we are not trying," Moyes said.

The manager is wary of repeating past Hammers mistakes made prior to his arrival at the club: "What I don't want to do is I don't want to spend and waste my money, take a wage up bringing a player in, spend big money and find that actually, I've got it wrong.

"I'd rather I waited and got someone who might be available in the summer."

Despite acknowledging the difficulties of the January window, Moyes claimed that without it, his club may not have been a Premier League team this season:

"It has never been a great window, nobody has got time to do business," said Moyes.

He added: "I think it helped us greatly last year. I am not sure we would have been a Premier League club if we hadn't done business last January."

However, the search continues for another striker: "If we can find somebody who we think can add to the squad and help us get better then we are going to try and do that," said Moyes.

One such player is Sevilla striker Youssef En-Nesyri, Moyes confirmed the club had bid for the Moroccan international but that it had been rejected: "We have made an offer him, yes."

Moyes said the club have tried "really hard" to sign players but added caution that a new signing was not guaranteed:

"I’m having to caveat that by saying there’s a strong chance we don’t get anyone."

With two weeks left in the transfer window, West Ham fans will be hoping Antonio is fit to start Tuesday evenings match against West Brom and that the striker is over his recent injury worries.

Despite scoring the winner on Saturday vs Burnley Moyes said that Antonio is "not at full tilt," he added, "I think he is doing well, but I know there are another couple of gears for him to go into."

West Ham have the opportunity to move into sixth place on Tuesday evening, and a full-tilt Antonio will certainly help them in that quest.
