Striker makes debut as Notts County head coach Ian Burchnall names team to face York City

Notts County head coach Ian Burchall handed Kairo Mitchell his debut as the Magpies faced their latest pre-season encounter against York City this afternoon.

Mitchell became the club's latest signing by penning a two-year deal from Chesterfield, with Notts paying an undisclosed fee for his services.

The former King's Lynn striker was plunged straight into the starting line-up alongside Kyle Wootton up front as the Magpies looked to continue their impressive pre-season form.

There was no place for Ruben Rodrigues in the squad with the attacker still not considered fit after testing positive for COVID, while Lewis Knight was also absent with a hamstring problem.

Despite those absentees, Notts still carried a great deal of firepower as Burchnall named a 3-5-2 system with Sam Slocombe in goal behind the back three of Richard Brindley, Kyle Cameron and Adam Chicksen.

Joel Taylor and Dion Kelly-Evans were handed wingback duties while Ed Francis, Matt Palmer and Callum Roberts made up the centre of midfield.

Up front, Mitchell partnered last season's top scorer Wootton.

On the subs bench were Elisha Sam, Aaron Nemane, Connell Rawlinson, Tiernan Brooks, Brad McGregor and Jim O'Brien.
