Striker linked with Bristol City and Nottingham Forest set to sign for Bolton Wanderers

Dion Charles, who was linked with a move to Bristol City in the summer, is set to swap League One clubs, according to reports.

The Sun suggests the Northern Ireland international will make the move from Accrington Stanley to Bolton Wanderers when the transfer window opens on January 1.

The reported fee Accrington are to receive is £300,000.

Charles had been mooted as a target for City in the summer by Sky Sports News, with Accrington reportedly valuing the 26-year-old at £700,000 at the time.

City were said to have opened talks over a move, with Nottingham Forest and Barnsley also linked as possible suitors in the report.

Nigel Pearson's Robins were persuing strikers in the summer window after the departure of Famara Diedhiou, but Accy chairman Andy Holt poured cold water on the speculation and Charles remained at the Wham Stadium.

At that time, Charles was viewed as a genuine option for Championship clubs after scoring 20 goals in 45 appearances last season.

But since then he has been involved in a "Mexican stand-off" – as Accrington manager John Coleman described it – over a new contract.

Coleman said in November Charles had "reneged" on an agreement that he would sign a new deal if a summer move failed to materialise, and he has not been included in an Accrington squad since September 11.

Pearson was upfront about his search for a striker in the summer stating that the players he was offered weren’t of the requisite quality, suitability or value for City.
