Striker finds post-Rangers transfer interest as La Liga side make him 'priority' signing target

Umar Sadiq has been earmarked as a key signing target for La Liga side Villareal this summer as he continues to find strength after Rangers.

A report from Nigeria had claimed that Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund were closing in on a £25million move but these have been stated as false. It is claimed by transfer guru Fabrizio Romano that this is wide of the mark but Spanish side Villareal is keen on signing Sadiq.

They are the favourites in the race for his signature and have picked Rangers' former Roma loanee as one of their 'priority' deals this summer for their upcoming Spanish term. His career has taken off since his time in Glasgow. The striker moved to Ibrox on a season-long loan from Roma four years ago but failed to make any impression in Scotland.

Sadiq made just four appearances for Rangers, with only one start. That loan was cut short after six months by boss Steven Gerrard as future prospects at a high level looked bleak.

It didn't get him down though and he followed up that spell with 23 goals for Partizan Belgrade.

Now at Almeria in Spain, he's racked up an impressive 41 strikes in 81 outings, with 19 assists added in too, attracting elite interest.
