Striker Billy Sharp makes Nottingham Forest transfer admission

Striker Billy Sharp has been reflecting on his loan spell at Nottingham Forest and says he would like to have signed for the Reds permanently.

The 34-year-old had a spell on loan at the City Ground from Southampton in 2012/13, scoring 12 goals in 43 appearances, in all competitions.

He went on to join Reading and Doncaster Rovers on loan, before moving to Leeds United and then back to hometown club Sheffield United in the summer of 2015.

Sharp has scored goals wherever he’s gone throughout his career, and when he was linked with a move back to Forest in January, it piqued the interest of many fans.

But it all could have been very different, if the front man had put pen to paper all those years ago.

The Blades forward was asked on Twitter if there was “ever a point in time” when he wanted to sign permanently for the Reds.

Sharp replied: “Yes I wanted to sign of course, was a great club to be at, enjoyed every minute of my time at Forest, fans were amazing towards me and my family and will forever be grateful for that.”

After speculation about his future during the winter transfer window, Sharp has previously said he never considered leaving Bramall Lane in January.

“I had a lot of offers,” he said at the time. “If I’d have been able to do a bit of media (at the time) I’d have put it to bed on day one.

“I didn’t want to leave. I’m the captain of this football club. I wasn’t playing much, but I always believed I would get a chance.”
