"It cannot make sense to make lecturers redundant when we need to get more people into the college," said Paul Mackney, general secretary of the National Association of Teachers in Further and Higher Education.
The 32,000 student college employs 1,241 full time staff.
In December, the further education funding council ordered an investigation into the college's failure to meet its educational targets or manage its £45m budget. Sir George Sweeney, who transformed the fortunes of Knowsley College, Liverpool, was drafted in to co-author the review and act as principal. He recommended restructuring the college and cutting staff.
