Strike averted at Loretto Hospital

A tentative contract agreement averted a strike by about 200 employees at Loretto Hospital. | Sun-Times file

The union representing frontline workers at Loretto Hospital said it has reached a tentative agreement with management that includes wage increases, better staffing ratios and more stable work schedules

About 200 crisis workers, clerks and people who work in food service planned to strike Monday if an agreement wasn’t reached.

Instead, workers will gather outside the hospital Monday to celebrate their contract agreement as part of the Strike for Black Lives National Day of Action.

The workers, represented by SEIU Healthcare Illinois and Indiana, began negotiating a new contract in December. A ratification vote will be held next week. The union has an ownership stake in Sun-Times Media.
