Strictly stars Stacey Dooley and Joe Sugg to present BBC New Year's Eve concert

Strictly Come Dancing stars Stacey Dooley and Joe Sugg will host BBC One’s New Year’s Eve concert at the end of the month.

Champion Dooley, who stormed to victory with Kevin Clifton, and finalist Sugg will front the live celebrations on December 31, counting down to midnight with viewers as well as keeping them entertained after the fireworks.

The concert will be the first major television presenter role for Sugg, who has become a household name since he was paired up with Dianne Buswell, while Dooley will take a different challenge than her BBC Three documentaries for one night only.

Speaking of her excitement, Dooley said: "2018 has been such a fantastic year for me, working on some hard-hitting documentaries as well as Strictly, has been a real treat.

"Presenting with Joe Sugg at the New Year's Eve concert with Madness is the perfect ending to such a great year!"

YouTube star Sugg added: "I'm so excited to be presenting with my fellow Strictly pal Stacey Dooley at the incredible New Year's Eve concert in London with the legendary band Madness... what a great finale to a terrific year. Bring on 2019!"

Madness will open the concert, live from Central Hall Westminster, with a medley of their greatest hits to get everybody in the party mood.

There will also be a collaboration with The Kingdom Choir before the nation gets ready to countdown to midnight and ring in the New Year.

On Saturday night, Dooley was crowned series 16 champion with five-time finalist partner Clifton, beating Sugg, Faye Tozer and Ashley Roberts to the glitterball .

The New Year's Eve concert will be broadcast live on BBC One at 11.35pm until 11.59pm on December 31. It will then return to air following the fireworks display at 00.14am until 1am.
