Strictly stars in tears over TV tribute to late former winner Caroline Flack

Strictly Come Dancing is to air an emotional tribute to former contestant Caroline Flack, who took her own life in February.

Stars are seen choking back tears on Saturday’s Best of The Final show, featuring some of the most exciting and nerve-racking moments from the BBC ballroom competition.

The last seven minutes are devoted to 2014 winner Caroline.

Host Claudia Winkleman describes her as a champion “who stands out amongst them all” – because she was the first celebrity to receive a perfect 40 score for all her dances in the final.

Co-presenter Tess Daly adds: “She lit up the Strictly ballroom every single week.”

The judges and stars sound emotional as they recall Caroline’s time on the show.

She won the glitterball trophy with Pasha Kovalev and described it as the “best experience of her whole life”.

Judge Bruno Tonioli says: “I loved Caroline, she was so much fun. Great to be with, she was a joy.

“We will always love Caroline and we will never forget her.”

Dance partner Pasha Kovalev said: “We saw how she transformed into that beautiful dancer with a big heart on her sleeve. That series will always have a special place in my heart.”

Pasha and Caroline’s best dances are also shown, including their amazing showdance to Beverley Knight’s version of Angels.

Dancer Janette Manrara’s voice cracks as she says: “The highlight was her showdance.

"You could feel she was lost in the moment. As a performer you can’t ask for more. It is a memory I hold close to my heart.

“I think overall she would have said her Strictly journey was magical. I’m so happy she was able to pick up that glitterball and win.”

Following her Strictly success, Caroline landed a role hosting ITV’s Love Island, but stood down following issues in her private life in 2019.

A coroner ruled Caroline’s death was suicide. She was facing a trial accused of assaulting her boyfriend.

  • Strictly: The Best Of The Final is on BBC1 at 8.10pm on Saturday.
