Strictly star insisted on having same-sex partner due to hidden family heartbreak

A Strictly Come Dancing star has revealed the real reason why she insisted on having a same-sex partner on the show.

Jayde Adams made the request due to a secret family heartbreak. Birmingham Live reports that the star explained that she wanted a female partner, to pay tribute to her sister Jenna.

Jayde said: "The last time I danced was actually with my sister . . . so this felt really natural for me.” At the weekend, Jayde and her partner Karen Hauer took to the floor to perform an American smooth to the song, Wind Beneath my Wings by Bette Midler.

The comedian gave an extremely emotive performance, and received a standing ovation from Motsi Mabuse and Shirley Ballas. The 37-year-old explained that the dance was a tribute to her sister Jenna, who died 11 years ago, and that the pair shared a love for the singer Bette Midler.

Mabuse said: "Thank you very very much for sharing your story and sharing your sister with us, I think she would be very proud at this moment. You changed the mood and it was beautiful."

Shirley Ballas, who was noticeably still emotional after the performance, said: "Jayde I feel like you're my hero... You've represented this number for everyone who's lost a loved one. Thank you for doing that."

After the performance, Adams became tearful before receiving a score of 31 points. Jayde and Karen flew through to next week's show and will perform again next weekend on the programme.
