Strictly star Caroline Quentin faces fix row as she is trained ballerina

Strictly Come Dancing 's upcoming series will star actress Caroline Quentin, 60, who will be paired up with a professional dancer.

But before the show returns in October there are already whispers of a fix row as Caroline is a trained dancer.

The star used to practice ballet when she was younger, but has pointed out this was many decades ago and she insists this does not give her an advantage.

Caroline told the Mail Online in 2011: “I still love to dance any time, anywhere."

She also revealed on The One Show: "I do remember some of what I learned [dancing] but my knees are 50 years older than the last time I attempted any of it, and it’s my knees and my undergarments that are troubling me most as a notion.

"I hope my knees don’t let me down and I hope the foundation garments live up to expectations when I start leaping about!"

Meanwhile, Caroline's pal Amanda Holden threw her support behind her, telling Lorraine Kelly: “She was an absolute force and an inspiration to me.

“She had my back throughout. She taught me so much, especially women in our industry and to stick up for yourself.”

“People don’t know that when she was a little girl, she was a proper ballet dancer. She went to Tring [Park School for the Performing Arts] and she can actually do it.”

“But I don’t want anyone to hold that against her," Amanda added.

“Because I also know her knees have gone and she’ll be wearing special underwear on the nights.

“It’s definitely like she’s going to be starting again but I am rooting for her.”

As well as Caroline's TV credentials in shows including Jonathan Creek and Have I Got News For You, she has also starred in the chorus for the original English production of musicals Les Miserables and Oh, What a Lovely War!

Her Men Behaving Badly co star Martin Clunes believes Caroline has what it takes to win the Glitterball trophy, telling Loose Women: "I can't wait, she'll be brilliant.

"She's a trained dancer, you'll be amazed, and she can sing like a bird.

"I can't wait - she'll win it."

MirrorOnline has contacted Caroline's rep for comment, a rep for Strictly declined to comment.
