Strictly star Anton du Beke joins This Morning as a baking expert

Strictly dancer Anton du Beke will soon be making more bread after landing a baking job on daytime TV.

The BBC star, 52, will appear in a four-part series on rival channel ITV’s This Morning – Anton du Bake’s Baking Fails.

Anton, who trained as a baker before finding fame on the dancefloor, said: “Baking has always been my other passion. I’m thrilled to be joining This Morning.”

Anton will be filmed cooking for wife Hannah and two-year-old twins George and Henrietta, working in a bakery and helping viewers with cakes, scones and biscuits.

He will return to a bakery to work behind the scenes, and be reintroduced to the equipment he worked with when he trained as a baker at the age of 17.

Other episodes will see Anton learn additional skills from other bakers and help a mix of viewers struggling in the kitchen with celebratory cakes, scones and biscuits.

Anton told the Mirror: “Not everyone will be aware of this other side to me, they might just see me as a dancer, but baking has always been my other passion.”

He added: “I’m thrilled to be joining This Morning for this new series as I’ve always been a big fan of the show, and with my baking background hat on, I’m looking forward to helping viewers with their baking mishaps.

"I’ve got plenty of tips, tricks and advice that will hopefully help anyone struggling in the kitchen with their sweet or savoury treats.”

As well as the This Morning job, more projects on the channel are being “explored”, according to the show’s boss.

This Morning’s editor Martin Frizell revealed this could turn into something bigger for the show - and the channel.

He said: “Anton is a popular figure for our audience and has a natural, endearing presence on screen in this new series.

"With baking being as popular as it is, I’m sure this could be a winning combination for the show and ITV, and other ideas will also be explored.”

Proving Anton is already part of the This Morning family, he will also be with the team at This Morning Live events at NEC Birmingham this week.

  • Anton du Bake’s Baking Fails starts on This Morning at 10.30am on ITV.
