Strictly star AJ Odudu 'being eyed up by Love Island as Laura Whitmore replacement'

AJ Odudu’s performances on Strictly Come Dancing could land her the plum telly job of hosting Love Island.

Sources said bosses at the ITV reality show were “bowled over” by AJ – and may be eyeing her up to replace Laura Whitmore.

AJ, 33, has experience presenting dating shows, including Channel 4 ’s Married At First Sight: Afters.

Love Island sources said it was “too early to decide” whether Laura, 36, would return as host.

But AJ’s dancing on Strictly has raised her profile – as have rumours she is dating pro dance partner Kai Widdrington, 26.

A source said: “Love Island bosses are loving AJ on Strictly.

The star could replace Laura Whitmore on the hit ITV show (ITV)

“She has done a few dating shows and would be the perfect fit. At the moment it’s early days but she is the girl of the moment and has lots of offers coming her way.

“If she is offered the Love Island job she will have to weigh it up seriously as now is her moment and she’s got a lot of opportunities to choose from.”

AJ also hosted Big Brother ’s Bit On The Side. In July she won the second series of Celebrity Karaoke Club on ITV2.

In their first week of Strictly, she and Kai topped the leaderboard.

Judge Motsi Mabuse hailed the routine “the best dance of the evening, without a doubt”.

Earlier this year it was reported Laura, who took over on Love Island from the late Caroline Flack, could be axed in a revamp.

Other names linked to the job are Maya Jama and former series winner Maura Higgins.

A spokesperson for Love Island shot down rumours that Laura could be replaced adding: "Laura has done a fantastic job at the helm of the show both this year, and last." But a show source added: "It's too early to discuss next series."
