Strictly Come Dancing 'snubbed by celebrities over low £60,000 fee'

Strictly Come Dancing are reportedly struggling to book their desired stars, who are "snubbing" the show due to its "low" £60,000 fee.

Celebrities are rumoured to be shunning the BBC dancing competition because they aren't being offered enough cash, it has been claimed.

It is believed that actress Tamzin Outhwaite and singer Jessie J are among those who have been approached to take part in the series.

There has been a big push by the BBC to book high-profile celebrities for this year amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The judging panel appeared to be in jeopardy when Bruno Tonioli said he would only do the US version of the dance show this year because of coronavirus (PA)

But agents are reportedly worried that their clients won't be able to benefit from appearing alongside 'lower level' celebrities and that they would be able to make more money on other rival shows, such as I'm A Celebrity.

An agent told The Sun : "There’s a new curse of Strictly — they don’t pay and appearing will do nothing for your career.

“It’s not just the chance of you waltzing off with your partner, now the cash is poor and you waltz off into obscurity. No one wants to do it.”

Using last year's winner Kelvin Fletcher as an example, they pointed out that he was doing "nothing" now - though it is currently a pandemic so this isn't entirely surprising.

They added: "The BBC has no problem getting smaller stars like people who left Corrie a while back and have done little since, but the really big names like Michelle, who will draw in the viewers, they are struggling to land.”

Representatives for Strictly declined to comment when approached by the Mirror.

Strictly is set to look very different this year as social distancing measures are put in place.

The show will be filmed with a reduced audience and likely will have just three judges on the panel if restrictions on US air travel continue.

In previous years, Bruno Tonioli has flown in between his homes in LA and London to take part in Strictly and its American version Dancing With The Stars.
