Strictly 'signs up The Wanted singer Max George in drive to win younger viewers'

Strictly Come Dancing has signed up The Wanted's Max George, reports say.

While the BBC is yet to announce an official line-up, an insider has told that the Beeb has managed to scoop up the handsome lad for the 2020 series.

The source told The Sun : "Max is a great signing and bosses hope he’ll help bring in a younger audience to the show as he was part of a really popular boyband.

“It’s great for the show to have a hunk already secured to take part and given his time singing they're hoping he has good dancing feet.”

He wouldn't be the first member of the heartthrob band to take to the floor, as Jay McGuinness's 2015 stint saw him go on to lift the Glitterball Trophy.

Mirror Online has reached out to a representative of Max, while the BBC declined to comment.

The future of Strictly was thrown into question earlier this year amid the coronavirus crisis, with fans still unsure about how exactly the BBC intends to go ahead with it.

Meanwhile, although the official lineup announcement hasn't yet dropped, funnyman Bill Bailey will be putting on his dancing shoes, as will actress Caroline Quentin.

Among other rumoured celebs have been Max's ex-fiance and Corrie star Michelle Keegan - though the actress has dismissed the whisperings despite being a huge fan.

Roman Kemp, Ben Foden, Greg Davies, Beverley Callard, Maura Higgins, RuPaul Charles and Gemma Collins are some of the other names that have been floated.

It was said earlier this year that the BBC would prioritise delivering a solid series of Strictly for fans amid the Covid disruption.

Last year's show saw Emmerdale's Kelvin Fletcher jive his way to victory, alongside pro partner Oti Mabuse.

2020's show was already set for a bit of a shake-up after fan favourite pros AJ Prithcard and Kevin Clifton would be departing.

But fans can expect other dancers, as well as judges Shirley Ballas, Motsi Mabuse and Craig Revel-Horwood to return - with it uncertain whether Bruno Tonioli will be able to make it back from the States amid new travel restrictions.
