Strictly's Tess Daly criticised for 'condescending' comment to Rhys as he cries on BBC show

Tess Daly has been accused of being "condescending" towards Rhys Stephenson on Strictly Come Dancing.

The BBC One show host consoled the presenter as he cried after he danced a waltz to You Light Up My Life by Whitney Houston.

He was overcome with emotion as he confessed he had a tough week last week, which saw him in the dance-off, but fans were less than impressed with the way Tess handled it.

"Aw, come on darling. Aw Rhys, come over sweetheart," she said to him, "Are you crying honey? Are you having a little cry? I know you were so nervous. Aw I know you were really nervous and you really wanted to do well."

He wiped his tears away, as he replied: "I'm so sorry, it’s so embarrassing."

She replied to him: "You don’t want to be in that dance off again do you? Not at all."

However, viewers didn't take kindly to her comments, as they blasted the star on social media.

One fan wrote: "Tess was so condescending with Rhys #Strictly."

"Oh come on now Tess, Rhys isn’t 5!! He danced beautifully & all we can hear at the end is you #Strictly," another added.

A third shared: "That was uncomfortable to witness. Why did Tess feel the need to speak to Rhys like he was 6 years old? He’s an grown man, not her infant child #strictly," with a fourth adding: "Genuinely chuckled to myself at Tess saying ‘you don’t wanna be in the dance off again do you?’ So patronisingly to Rhys."

A fifth wrote: "Tess talking to Rhys like he's just fell of the climbing frame and bruised his knee. #Strictly."

His dance was heavily praised by the judges as Cynthia told him: "I love the connection the two of you have on that dancefloor, you move with such grace, I just want you to breathe more."

Shirley Ballas added: "You have astounded me from the top to the bottom, it was beautiful. It had grace, it had charm, I felt your emotion. I just want to give you a hug and say well done."

However, Craig Revel Horwood didn't like the dance, as he added: "I felt you were following and not leading this dance.

"For me it lacked drive completely, there was no swing, there was no sway, that is what made it look square and blocky."
