Strictly's Shirley Ballas hits back as she defends critique over Jason and Luba's dance

Strictly Come Dancing 2020 stars Jason Bell and Luba Mushtuk failed to impress the judges with their performance on Saturday.

They performed the paso doble to the Star Wars theme, something viewers at home weren't sure was the right song.

The judges were pretty critical in their comments after the dance, and with their scores to.

Jason and Luba only scored 12 points, but some viewers were blaming the song choice - as many were divided over the performance.

As it came to the judges giving their verdicts, Shirley did not hold back on what she had to say.

While she praised him for giving it a go, she told him it did not capture the character of that style of dance.

She said she appreciated some parts of the performance, but thought it was "very flat footed".

Suddenly disagreement could be heard in the audience, thought to be made up of the other stars of the show now that lockdown is in place.

They were heard reacting as if they felt the comments were unfair, causing Shirley to look over and react.

She told them, while it was unclear who she was talking to: "I have to just say what I see, darling."

Shirley was then backed by co-judge Motsi Mabuse who appeared to tell her: "Say it, say it."

She proceeded with her comments, but the moment didn't go unnoticed by viewers at home.

As some admitted they agreed with her, others suggested she was a bit harsh.

One viewer said: "Shirley is being very strict this week........"

But some were team Shirley, with one writing: "Agree with Shirley. It did lack today."

Another said: "Shirley failed to find the spirit of the paso in the Star Wars theme? Who would have thought?!"

A third tweeted: TY Shirley for saying everything I was thinking."

Strictly Come Dancing continues Saturdays and Sundays on BBC One.
