Strictly's Shirley Ballas 'grateful' as she pays tribute to 'beautiful' mum

Strictly Come Dancing head judge Shirley Ballas has paid a heartfelt tribute to her "beautiful" mum as she reflected on times gone by.

Shirley's mum, Audrey Rich, lives with her and her boyfriend Danny Taylor, and they are extremely close. Now Strictly has finished for 2022, Shirley said she is "moving into Christmas".

The 62-year-old took to Instagram on Thursday to share a video of herself dancing alongside Nikolai Voronovich a number of years ago. She said she was "grateful" as she reflected on the "special moment".

Shirley told her many followers: "This Rumba was part of a lecture I did in the Spanish Rooms at Blackpool. It was a marvellous turn out with dancers from all across the world attending. But one very special attendee was my beautiful Mum @audrey.rich1937.

"She came to watch me dance and teach and it was an absolute delight she could be there. For her to see me in action teaching about my passion was an honour. My Mum is the reason I was able to start dancing as a little girl all those years ago.

"I will be forever grateful for this experience. Enjoy the dancing. Xxx"

Fans were quick to comment. Geri said: "That’s so beautiful Shirley! It brought tears to my eyes! What a talent you have! A very worthy head judge on Strictly!!", while Deanna said: "Absolutely fabulous Shirley!"

Susan said: "Stunning, you are a fabulous dancer". Chris said: "WOW, I am lost for words Shirley. Your mum must have been so proud. We’ll done you! Amazing!"
