Ella Baig says she was pushed to breaking point during girlfriend Nicola Adams' stint on Strictly Come Dancing.
The 22 year old suffered panic attacks and said she had "dark thoughts" as her partner focused on her training.
The beauty blogger made the difficult decision to return to live in Leeds with her mum days after filming started.
They were apart for two months and Ella has now opened up about the toll the BBC show took on her and the couple's relationship.
She described it as "the worst time of my life" as she "started feeling really down".
Ella told The Sun : “Nicki would be training all day then come home, chill and sleep.
"I would try to keep busy in the house, tidying up, cleaning and trying to shoot content. But mostly I was just watching TV.
"I started feeling really down and having panic attacks, where my heart was racing and I felt like I couldn’t breathe. I had dark thoughts.
"I was in a bubble with Nicki and Katya I wasn’t allowed to go out and see anyone.”
Nicola had to leave Strictly early when Katya tested positive for coronavirus.
Although she didn't test positive herself, the sports star had to bow out of the show early.
Ella, who has been with the Olympian for two years, added: "We were apart for two months and it was a hard decision not to see Nicki for that long but you have to put your health first.
"It was one of the worst periods of my life."
Despite false reports of a split, Ella insisted the pair did not break up during filming.
Ella says her decision to leave London and temporarily move away from girlfriend had nothing to do with the state of their relationship.
She says things have been fantastic since her exit from the hit show as the pair enjoyed a New Year trip to the Maldives.
Ella added: "I heard the rumours we had broken up and I was like, 'Have we? That's news to me'. The curse didn’t affect us at all."
