Strictly's Neil Jones 'will get celeb partner in new series' after missing out last year

Strictly Come Dancing star Neil Jones will reportedly get a celebrity partner this year, but fellow professional Luba Mushtuk will miss out.

German-born Neil was sidelined in the last series of the hit BBC One show as he didn't get the chance to be partnered with any of the famous contestants.

But this time around the 39-year-old star “will be thrilled” to tutor a celeb according to a TV insider.

Neil famously partnered BBC presenter and former football star Alex Scott in the 2019 series.

However, having been left out in the cold, Neil is back in the frame and raring to go.

“Neil will be thrilled by this turnaround as he must have wondered whether his star would drastically fade without a famous face to be partnered with,” the source told The Sun.

“The fact he has got a pairing will seem like an even greater feat given that Luba has been denied one."

Neil’s return will be welcomed by many fans of the show, but it has been reported that his return will be at the expense of Russian dancer Luba.

Neil originally joined the show in 2016, but he was not partnered with a celebrity back then and he had to wait untill the 2019 series to get his chance to shine alongside sports star Alex Scott.

He received unwanted attention when his marriage to fellow dancer – and now former wife – Katya Jones made the headlines two years later.

Russian professional dancer Katya was snapped snogging her dance partner, comic Seann Walsh, in the street after a boozy night out.

Neil and Katya subsequently separated a year after the scandal after six years of marriage – and in the last series Katya became part of the first same-sex couple to compete in the series alongside Olympic boxer Nicola Adams OBE.

This year Katya is rumoured to be following in Luba’s shoes and appearing as a backing dancer on the popular show.

It comes after Olympic swimming champion Adam Peaty MBE and Loose Women panellist Judi Love were announced as the final celebrities to join the star-studded line-up.

The pair were both unveiled last Friday and became the 13th and 14th contestants to join the show.
