Strictly's Kym Marsh took brave decision to end fertility for sake of her family

Kym Marsh Jived her way into the 2022 series of Strictly Come Dancing with pro partner Graziano Di Prima last weekend, setting the pace for what's set to be a nail-biting series.

The former Coronation Street star - who married army major Simon Ratcliff last October - revealed that her loved on he will be supporting her every step of the way as she battles to lift the Glitterball Trophy.

The couple tied the knot in a intimate ceremony at Royal Memorial Chapel at Sandhurst, Surrey, in 2021, where she was joined by some of her soap star pals.

Kym's on-screen sister Alison King, who plays Carla Connor, was one of her bridesmaids whilst actor Anthony Cotton was also in attendance on the big day alongside Kim's children David, 27, Emilie, 25, and Polly, 11, along with Scott’s daughter Renee, seven, and Kym’s grandson, Teddy, three.

Speaking about her beautiful day Kym told OK! magazine: "It really was the best day ever. It was exactly what we hoped it would be and more. When I saw Scott and how handsome he was in his uniform, it was just like, 'Wow.'"

At her wedding, Kym also paid tribute to her and ex Jamie's late son Archie, who was tragically born 18 weeks early in February 2009 and passed away soon after birth. In his memory, she wore a necklace featuring a cherub.

Kym and then-partner Jamie Lomas were devastated by the loss, and her subsequent pregnancy with daughter Polly was also fraught with complications, leading the actress and singer to make a brave decision to spare herself and her family any further pain.

Which is why once Polly arrived seven weeks premature - following months of bed rest - the actress underwent uterine ablation - a procedure in which the lining of the uterus is removed, making pregnancy almost impossible.

Confirming the news to OK! magazine, she revealed she made her mind up just weeks into her pregnancy with Polly.

"I was constantly having contractions from 16 weeks but I couldn't feel them. We only knew because they were monitoring me so closely because of what happened with Archie," she said.

"Polly was seven weeks premature but okay and at my six-week check-up... I told him I didn't want any more [children]," she continued.

Kym posted a heartbreaking tribute to Archie (instagram)

"I didn't want to go through the trauma again because there would never be any guarantee it would be fine. And not just for me, but for my children and my parents - everyone suffered."

She keeps little Archie's ashes in a box next to her bed, and described the painful loss was the 'worst thing' she's been through.

"It’s something you never get over," she told Metro.

"It affects so many people and it’s something so many people are going through all the time."
