Strictly's Kai Widdrington confirms 'comeback' for Christmas after crushing exit blow

Kai Widdrington has delighted Strictly Come Dancing fans by confirming his 'comeback' for Christmas, after a crushing early exit in the new series.

Since joining the BBC show as a professional last year, Kai's time on Strictly has been rather dramatic. Having made a great first impression on fans, thanks to his fantastic partnership with TV host AJ Odudu, the pair made it all the way to the final, only for disaster to strike when AJ picked up an injury in training just days before the big night.

AJ and Kai were forced to watch from the sidelines as Giovanni Pernice and Rose Ayling-Ellis took home the Glitterball trophy, with John Whaite and Johannes Radebe in second. After the show wrapped at the end of 2021, Kai and AJ were hoping to perform together on tour, only for AJ's injury to thwart those plans as well, leaving Kai to dance with 2020 finalist Maisie Smith.

Strictly fans were delighted when Kai was confirmed as a pro for the new series but sadly, he only lasted a few weeks in the ballroom as he was one half of the first couple to be eliminated this time round, alongside Loose Women star Kaye Adams. However, the good news for Kai and his fans is that he will be back in the Strictly ballroom before the year is out as he has confirmed he will star in this year's Christmas special.

Strictly's Christmas Day episode is always a big ratings winner for the BBC and Kai will be taking to the floor alongside soap star Alexandra Mardell, a popular member of the Coronation Street cast. Kai posted a photo of himself and Alexandra in rehearsals, captioning it: Here we are !!! @bbcstrictly Christmas special here we come!"

His followers were quick to react, with one replying: "I have a feeling you guys will win the Xmas trophy this year! Go for it!" A second reacted: "eeek I am soo excited for this!! Cannot wait to see you two dance together." And, already forecasting good things for Kai should he return to Strictly in 2023, another fan told him: " YES! My favourite guy from Strictly! You will win it next year if you get a good partner"
