Strictly's John Whaite reveals disgusting reason why celebs and their pro partners aren't attracted to each other

Strictly Come Dancing contestant John Whaite has candidly revealed why celebs and their pro partners don't tend to be attracted to each other on the BBC One show.

In a chat addressing the so-called Strictly 'curse' and talk of sparks flying between AJ Odudu and Kai Widdrington, John explained the unsavoury reason why romance between the pairings is unlikely.

Speaking on Steph's Packed Lunch John told host Steph McGovern that the dance partners spend so much time together they end up with rather more than they bargained for, and it's far from romantic.

"When you spend that much time with them you see them warts and all," explained the former Bake Off winner from Wigan who is partnered with Johannes Radebe.

"I think I've burped in Johanne's face. I might have even farted at one point.

"There's no attraction because you see everything. Sweat and everything."

On speculation about Aj and Kai, fuelled by Kai being overheard saying 'I love you' after their routine inspired by The Bodyguard on Saturday night, John said it can be said platonically.

"I love Johannes. You spend that much time with them," he said.

At the weekend John, who is engaged to graphic designer Paul Atkins, got an almost perfect score with Johannes for their Paso Doble to the Pirates of the Caribbean theme song.

They scored 39 points from the judges including Craig Revel Horwood who described it as 'seriously hot' and didn't manage to make any notes because he was so fixated on the spellbinding routine.

Securing three 10s and a nine from Craig the pair shot to the top of the Strictly leaderboard.

The emotional pair hugged each other for support after the points rolled in.

Johannes thanked the judges and John after getting his first nine and 10s in the show since he joined in 2018.
