Strictly's John Whaite issues important message to trolls after nasty comments

The Great British Bakeoff star John Whaite is currently taking part in Strictly Come Dancing as part of the first-ever male same-sex pairing and instead of hitting back at trolls has taken a more understanding viewpoint.

John is partnered up with professional dancer Johannes Radebe and while they have received many positive comments about their same-sex pairing , John is still experiencing some hate.

Posting to his Instagram story he said he had had some nasty messages but then went on to recommend the Samaritans to his haters, as he believes their hate is a sign of their personal troubles.

He said: "Had a handful of nasty messages recently, and while it doesn't bother me in the slightest, I feel rather sorry for the people who feel the need to lash out at a stranger."

He went on to say: "It's often a clue that something is very unsettled in their personal life or mental wellbeing. If that's the case and you're going through a hard time, please look after yourself and give the Samaritans a call."

He finished by saying: "It might be much more beneficial to you than taking it out on someone you don't know." And he included the number for the Samaritans.

Other Strictly contestants, including Tilly Ramsay and Adam Peaty, have hit back about negative comments since taking part in the dancing show.

On Saturday, October 23, John and Johannes scored an amazing 38 points after dancing the Charleston and they remain in the competition, ready to dance in this weekend's Halloween special.
