Strictly's John and Johannes left gobsmacked by Olly Alexander's message of support

John Whaite and Johannes Radebe were shocked when Olly Alexander sent them a good luck message on Saturday's Strictly Come Dancing.

The dancing duo did a Cha Cha to Years and Years' track Starstruck and they couldn't believe it when singer Olly sent them a congratulatory message for their dance.

John told host Claudia Winkleman: "Years and Years are one of my favourite bands and that song is - I could have it tattooed on me. I love it so much."

Claudia then left the TV chef in shock as she revealed the team had bagged them a video message from the group's frontman. Both John and Johannes were clearly shocked by all that was happening.

"Stop it!" the professional dancer shouted as he put his hand over his mouth in surprise.

Olly then appeared on screen to congratulate the pair on their dance.

"Hi John and Johannes. Oh my gosh, thank you so much for choosing Starstruck for your Cha Cha," he said.

"I absolutely love watching you guys, I’m so happy you’re in this competition.

"Keep killing it and I’m just going to send you all my love. Best of luck. Have the best night. Thank you!"

Johannes was nearly in tears from the video message whilst John couldn't believe it either.

Claudia told them: "He’s a proper fan. We’ve showed people videos of family members, it has never got a reaction quite like that."

John recently admitted he has found training for Strictly really tough.

"Sometimes the days are stressful and we have to take a few more breaks. Last week when we were learning the steps, I was getting really stressed … I glaze over," he said on Steph's Packed Lunch last week.

"I reach mental saturation and he has to either feed me Haribo or send me home and I think it’s easier just to put me in cab and send me home."

The Great British Bake Off winner was left in tears after a sweet conversation with Johannes in rehearsals.

He said: "He was being too nice. I said ‘Johannes, I’m just not getting it so please can you talk me through the steps, be horrible to me and I’ll get it.' He was like 'No darling, I don’t do that', I started crying.

"I’ve been championing this all my life… For the fact the moment is here now … It’s been lovely. I saw Nicola and Katya do it last year and was like yay, so when it does come round I would love to be a part of it."
