Strictly's John and Johannes in tears as they get highest score of series so far

By Charlotte Tutton

Strictly Come Dancing aired an almost perfect 40 points in week three, with John Whaite and Johannes Radebe getting 39 points from the judges.

John and Johannes performed an impressive Paso Doble to the Pirates of the Caribbean theme song, and it had everyone on their feet.

The judges didn't have a bad word to say about it, while Craig Revel Horwood confessed he didn't even make any notes as he was so focused on the routine.

Securing three 10s, the dance pair were stunned as they shot to the top of the leaderboard after the powerful performance.

The most 10s given this series so far and the most points too, it's thought it's also the highest week three scoring ever in the show's history.

As the judges gave their feedback, Shirley Ballas and Motsi Mabuse gave them a standing ovation - as did the other pairings and the studio audience.

John confessed that his legs were shaky as judge Anton Du Beke admitted he was "overwhelmed", calling it the "best thing he had seen all night".

Craig simply said: "It was seriously hot, unbelievable," while Motsi added: "What a night, seriously, what a night. You guys just happen to be a highlight."

She then gave away her score early, telling them: "I don't care whether it is week one, or week 10, you are getting that 10, okay? That was brilliant. I loved that."

Shirley told them: "I didn't want to sit down, I forgot to sit down, I got so excited let me tell you. Thank you for taking my notes on from last week."

She told them they had a "magnetic energy" while praising them for how they covered the floor and switched roles with ease.

Shirley went on: "I haven't seen anything like that, thank you for closing our show with such a magnificent performance."

Host Claudia Winkleman noticed the men seemed emotional, with John telling her: "I feel amazing, I feel like I am on fire, I've got so many layers on I'm melting.

John confessed he forgot a step in the rehearsal but managed to remember it in the live show, before praising Johannes for his choreography.

As the amazing scores came in, the pair hugged it out as they were visibly in shock and moved by the reaction.

Johannes choked up as he thanked the judges but also John, as he got his first nine and 10s ever in the series since he joined in 2018.

Strictly Come Dancing airs Saturday nights on BBC One, with the results show on Sundays.
