Strictly's Joe Sugg lands major acting role in BBC drama with two Corrie stars

Joe Sugg has landed his first major acting role in TV after being cast in the new series of the BBC's drama The Syndicate.

The 28-year-old YouTube star is better known for being himself on his social media channels but this time he is stepping into the shoes of someone else as he joins a star-filled cast.

Joe was a questionable addition to the Strictly Come Dancing line-up in 2018 but he soon won the hearts of the nation with his performances with professional dance partner Dianne Buswell, who became his girlfriend during the process as the 'Strictly curse' struck again.

After reaching the final of the BBC dance competition, Joe has had more regular opportunities to appear on TV, mainly in presenting roles, but this time he will get to flap his acting wings.

Starring in Kay Mellor's new series of her lottery drama, Joe will be joined by former Coronation Street stars Kym Marsh and Katie McGlynn.

Joe will be playing an aspiring musician named Sam, who is having relationship troubles as finds himself having problems committing to on-off girlfriend Roxy, who is played by Stella actress Taj Atwal.

A source told The Sun : "Joe has always been passionate about making the leap from YouTube sensation to TV personality.

“His Strictly success demonstrated that his popularity isn’t limited to online, and opened up a host of new opportunities for him, including the chance to act."

Joe reportedly knows "he has a lot to prove" but is taking the acting game seriously and is drawing on feelings of being "written off as a mere YouTuber on Strictly" to prove what he can do.
