Strictly's Jamie Laing had secret backstage 'meltdown' minutes before going on TV

Strictly Come Dancing star Jamie Laing has admitted he suffered a secret backstage "meltdown" minutes before going on TV.

The reality TV star, 32, has admitted he was hit by a crisis of confidence as his mind went blank and forgot all his steps during week four's live show.

Jamie says he was warming up in the minutes before he was due to hit the dance floor when he started to struggle.

He told the Metro : "I had one before doing the Samba.

"You go backstage and you get like five or 10 minutes to warm up before your dance.

"And I was backstage, trying to remember my steps and I couldn’t remember any of them.

"I looked at Karen, and said: 'Karen, I've lost it. I lost it.' She said, 'Well, you better find it'.

"That was a bit of a meltdown, but we were fine."

Jamie needn't have worried as he remembered his steps and put on a dazzling performance, earning a respectable 25 points from the judges.

It took the pair to a comfortable fourth on the leaderboard, with Max George later losing his place after the dance off.

Jamie and Karen are still going strong in the competition, but suffered a blip this weekend when they ended up in the bottom two.

They won the dance off, which ended up sending JJ Chalmers home.

Strictly now has just five couples left competing for the Glitterball trophy.

Jamie faces strong competition from HRVY, who topped the leaderboard again this weekend.

He's also up against Maisie Smith, Ranvir Singh and Bill Bailey who will all dance again this weekend.

Strictly returns to BBC One on Saturday and Sunday night.
