Strictly's HRVY does 'best first dance ever' as he stuns judges in week one

HRVY was told by one of the Strictly judges that he did the 'best first week dance ever' of any series after an amazing jive in the first live show of 2020.

The young pop star was the last celeb to perform on Saturday night and in the words of the famous Vanessa Williams song it was definitely a case of 'save the best for last' as he and pro partner Janette Manrara delivered a barnstorming routine.

After getting to her feet to give the first standing ovation of the series, a Motsi Mabuse exclaimed: "I'm going to be honest here...for me this was the best first dance I have ever seen....ever ever ever!"

She continued: "I have to give it you as you kind of spy on the other countries; what are they doing in Italy, America and Germany and this was awesome. My thought is where do we go from here HRVY?!"

The notoriously hard to please Craig Revel-Horwood called the jive "spectacular" much to the delight of Janette and Strictly head judge Shirley Ballas said he was "the one to watch" adding that he was absolutely at the top of his game.

She added "this is going to be one fierce competition," before HRVY was awarded a score of 25, putting him just ahead of EastEnders actress Maisie Smith who got 24 for her samba.

Just a few weeks ago HRVY was at the centre of some drama after he was forced to go into self-isolation after testing positive for coronavirus.

Talking to Claudia Winkleman about how nervous he was about the first live show, he said: "My hands were wet the whole time, I really needed to go for a wee but I didn't, which I'm glad about!"

Praising his work ethic, Janette said: "To do jive on week 1 means 10 days of jiving which is exhausting but he stayed there, he pushed with the stamina and he delivered that."
