Strictly's Helen Skelton 'stranded' in electric car at night after reuniting with dance partner Gorka Márquez

Strictly alumni Helen Skelton experienced a travel mishap this week after getting stranded in her electric car.

The Countryfile and Blue Peter presenter had been on her way home from meeting fellow Strictly star Gorka Márquez when her car gave up on her. Helen, slightly frustrated, took to Instagram to share her pain and to ask for advice.

Sitting in darkness, the 39-year-old shared a clip with the caption: "I thought electric cars were the future," followed by mind-blown and angry emojis. Helen admitted this was not the first time this had happened to her as she recalled owning an "impractical" Nissan Leaf more than 10 years ago, the Mirror reports.

She said: "I had an electric car over a decade ago - a Nissan Leaf. It didn't work out. I could never charge it and it was really impractical. Over a decade later, an electric car - not working out. Can't charge it and not for the first time...stranded."

In an unhappy tone, she then whispered: "I thought this was the future?" Calling it "first world problems", she added: "If anyone else is having more success with an electric car, I salute you."

Over the past few days, Helen and Gorka have been sharing cute snaps of each other on their Instagram pages. The duo has been catching up ahead of the Strictly tour which Gorka won't be a part of.

Posting a picture of him and Helen, he wrote: "Quick coffee catch up with this one today before she goes on tour with the rest of the Strictly Gang. Can’t wait to come and watch you dance at the Manchester show and be cheering you like a proud dad. Have the best Time @helenskelton."

He also added a video to his story, saying he had "bumped into" his former dance partner who then joked and said: "I am stalking him." The popular pair narrowly missed out on lifting the Glitterball on BBC last month in front of a live viewing audience.

Although they missed out on the big win, they were delighted to receive a perfect 40 out of 40 score for a reprise of their Couple's Choice routine to Mein Herr from Cabaret.
