Strictly's Gorka Marquez had 'warning' for Helen Skelton before Blackpool

Helen Skelton was given a 'warning' by Gorka Marquez before their routine in Blackpool last weekend, which resulted in them getting their highest score so far, but cold have gone horribly wrong.

Odds on former Blue Peter presenter Helen and former Strictly finalist Gorka taking home the Glitterball trophy this year are shortening all the time, as they close in on long standing favourite to win Hamza Yassin. And the hotly tipped couple did their chances of Strictly glory no harm at all at the weekend as they wowed the crowd in the conic Tower Ballroom with their Quickstep to Mark Ronson & Amy Winehouse's Valerie.

The fast paced number saw Helen and Gorka cover pretty much every inch of the famous dancefloor, receiving a rapturous reaction as the routine ended with Gorka kissing Strictly pro Cameron Lombard. As well as fans being on their feet in the Ballroom, the judges couldn't get enough of the performance. Comments from viewers on Twitter hinted at a possible perfect score for the dance and, while that was thwarted by Craig Revel-Horwood only awarding a 9, the other three judges also gave 10s, meaning Helen and Gorka got a series high of 39 out of 40.

There was more good news for Helen and Gorka when they avoided the dreaded dance-off yet again and made it through to another week, as the Samba les ahead for them on Saturday night.

However, when they joined host Janette Manrara for Thursday's It Takes Two, Helen admitted that she was anxious things could have gone wrong in Blackpool. over something Gorka warned her about.

The comment from Craig was that Helen's frame during her Quickstep was a bit 'hoedown,' and defending her, Gorka said: "It was more just the bounce, because the floor is so springy, it was making you shake a little."

Janntte remarked: "The Quickstep is known for being very bouncy dance in itself anyway; but then you have the sprung floor at Blackpool. Did that throw you? Did you like it?" with Helen replying: "Well I thought it was going to be great. I was like yes. we're going to be like kangaroos, but he (Gorka) was like 'no, because if you go wrong it'll be really obvious as you'll be all over the place. But thankfully, it worked."
