Strictly's Gorka Marquez finally addresses 'sore loser' face in final after fan accusations

Gorka Marquez has finally gone on the record about his highly publicised 'bad loser' face in the Strictly Come Dancing final admitting that he was disappointed not to win the show last year.

Having made the final twi9ce before, with Alexandra Burke and Maisie Smith, Spanish pro Gorka found himself back in contention for ballroom glory alongside Helen Skelton. The ex Blue Peter presenter had a rather shaky start to life on Strictly, even fleeing rehearsals through a fire door at one point, but came into her own as her partnership with Gorka flourished.

The couple were many people's pick for the Glitterball trophy, but in the end were pipped to victory by Hamza Yassin and Jowita Przystal. As the result was announced live on the BBC, the camera cut to Gorka, who was looking rather stony faced, while, in contrast, Helen looked happy for their rivals.

Gorka's reaction to missing out on a Strictly win once again became a big talking point on Twitter, with some critics saying he should have been more 'gracious,' while others branded him a 'sore loser.'

There was also plenty of support online for Gorka, with fans describing his reaction as 'genuine,' and now Gorka himself has addressed how he was feeling at that moment, discussing it during an appearance on BBC Breakfast.

Putting him on the spot, BB C host Sally Nugent said: "Gorka, we watched you all the way through Strictly, and you know – that moment at the final. We saw the emotion in that and I think everybody felt it," before adding :"How do you get over that, in a way?

Being candid with his response, Gorka replied:: ""Do you know what, it was only just like, probably the first ten mins after the results, where I go – 'Oh'. You know, that disappointment, of 'Oh we were so close, and we haven't got it.'"

He added: "But after you take yourself out of yourself, and look at what Helen achieved this series… For me it just means more to see that growth and improvement through the weeks, and how much she'd grown as a person, and her confidence and how happy she was"

Gorka was in the audience at Manchester's AO Arena at the weekend to see Helen in action with 'new' partner Kai Widdrington, after snubbing the tour to spend some quality time with other half Gemma Atkinson and daughter Mia, with Gemma confirming earlier tis month that she is expecting their second child.
