Strictly's Emma Barton looks unrecognisable as she channels icon Marilyn Monroe

Strictly Come Dancing fans were left baffled by EastEnders star Emma Barton's get up this evening.

The actress, 42, who idolises Marilyn Monroe, channeled her icon as she donned a curly blond wig, bold red lippy and a deep pink dress with matching elbow-high gloves.

Fans were quick to Twitter to express their astonishment - and love - over her new look.

One wrote: "Whoever styled @EmmaBarton hair on tonight's @bbcstrictly...Wow! What a transformation! #StrictlyComeDancing #strictly."

Another penned: "@bbcstrictly @EmmaBarton rocking that Marilyn Monroe look, gorgeous x."

"Oh wow," gushed another, "Emma looks fabulous dressed as Marilyn Monroe. Great dance too. @EmmaBarton #Strictly."

Emma and Anton took to the floor late in the show, the fifth of six couples to dance.

Their Quickstep - set to Nicole Kidman's Sparkling Diamonds - won them a solid 29 points.

Given the high level of the contest at this point, that landed them second from last, just ahead of the joined bottom Saffron Barker and AJ Pritchard and Alex Scott and Neil Jones with 26 each.

At the other end of the leaderboard sat the unstoppable Kelvin Fletcher and Oti Mabuse and Karim Zeroual and Amy Dowden, both with 38.

Chris Ramsey and Karen Hauer were third, with 31, followed by Emma and Anton.

Saffron and AJ will be feeling the pressure at the bottom, after they were saved by the judges last week in the dance off.

The judges bench controversially decided to give Michelle Visage and Giovanni Pernice the boot instead.

This evening also saw Karim's tearful embrace of his mum, who was in the crowd, after his performance.

Amy went to join in and share the love.

A fan tweeted: "Anyone else crying along with Karim's mum? That dance was amazing and deserved 4 tens! #strictly2019."

Broadcaster Kate Silverton loved how open Karim felt he could be.

"Love hearing personal backstories," Kate wrote, "So important for context and demonstrates to kids watching that despite challenges talent can find its voice with hard work & support from #family love Karim's mum and sister."
