Strictly's Dianne Buswell says Shirley Ballas 'personally apologised' over name blunder

Strictly proffesional Dianne Buswell says head judge Shirley Ballas apologised after calling her the wrong name during last week's live show.

On Strictly spin-off It Takes Two, Dianne said she wasn't bothered by Shirley calling her Diana, saying: "We are all human."

BBC One viewers found themselves unimpressed during Saturday evening's instalment of the much-loved dance competition when Shirley appeared to call Dianne 'Diana' several times, while dishing out her feedback after she and radio star Tyler West wowed the audience with their sultry dance.

Tyler and Dianne performed a Viennese Waltz to I’ve Been Loving You Too Long by Seal, and although it went down a treat with both viewers at home and the judging panel, some Strictly viewers rushed to Twitter to point out Shirley's name blunder.

Dianne took to Instagram after Saturday's show, where she defended Shirley and urged people to be kind online.

The pro dancer was asked about her Instagram post by It Takes Two host Jannette Manrara, with Diana responding: "She actually apologised to me personally as well and so it was an honest mistake and you know it happens, my pop actually calls me Diana, well did, call me Diana all the time, so I quite like it."

Dianne went on: "We are all human, we are doing the best we can, and sometimes people make mistakes and I don't want anyone to come at her for that, I am not bothered."

Jannette added that Shirley got excited and that might have contributed to her mistake, with Dianne agreeing.

On Saturday, Dianne shared her thoughts on Instagram, after her and Tyler's performance.

She wrote: "Firstly thank you guys for all the support on our dance last night. It was a tough week but I am forever in awe of the hard work and dedication Tyler brings every single week.

"Another point I want to address is I have seen a lot of hateful comments aimed at Shirley for simply adding an 'a' to the end of my name which doesn't offend me – but what does make me upset is someone being bullied online.

"We are all human and doing the best we can. Let's all please be kind to one another and not put each other down."

Several viewers on Twitter were unimpressed by Shirley getting Diane's name wrong.

One person wrote: "OMG Shirley getting Dianne’s name wrong again why don’t they correct her? Disrespectful to her and Ellie tonight."

Another annoyed Strictly fan tweeted: "I do think it rude of Shirley calling Dianne, Diana."

Elsewhere on It Takes Two, Dianne and Tyler spoke about getting 29 on the leaderboard, compared to usually scoring in the thirties.

"You have got to take it in your stride and just run with it," Tyler said.

"It wasn't our best dance we have done but every dance is so different, and you tried your absolute hardest," Dianne said to her partner.
