Strictly's Dan Walker explains reason why he never works on Sundays

Dan Walker has explained the personal reason behind his decision to not work on a Sunday.

It became a bigger topic of conversation as the presenter signed up for Strictly Come Dancing.

That's because the BBC One dance competition airs its results show on the final day of the week.

But luckily for Dan, the results are pre-recorded on a Saturday night straight after the live show.

Appearing on Loose Women, the BBC Breakfast presenter was asked about his decision to take a Sunday off.

As they discussed Dan’s experience on this year’s Strictly Come Dancing, Ruth Langsford said: "We had been talking about you - we ended up doing a topic because of something you said about your faith and you didn’t want to work on Sundays and that you devote that day to your family.

"I don't know if you even heard that we had been talking about that."

Dan responded saying he did see their discussion and praised them for it too.

"That’s something that’s really close to your heart isn't it?" Ruth prompted.

"Yeah and, can I just say thank you as people often look at that and treat it very negatively but I think you did it really sensitively," Dan said.

"The way that I look at it is I work hard six days a week and my sister’s a nurse in intensive care and she works on Sunday but it’s a choice I made a long time ago to try and set that day aside to spend that day with my family and church and doing things slightly differently."

He added: "It's not something that works for everybody but it really works for me and I think it gives me a really good perspective.

"And my kids know, wherever I am with busy stuff all over the place, I’ll be there on a Sunday and that’ll be a day we spend together as a family.

"And no one at Strictly ever does anything on a Sunday anyway, so it’s not like I’m missing out on anything, but for me, it helps me tick and keeps me going."

Dan appeared on the ITV show alongside his professional dancing partner Nadiya Bychkova who doesn't expect Dan to train on a Sunday.

This Saturday is Strictly's Movie Week and it has been confirmed that Dan and Nadiya will be dancing the foxtrot to Once Upon a Dream from Sleeping Beauty.

Other films that will feature including Shrek, Titanic, Back to the Future and Cruella.
