Strictly's Craig Revel Horwood releasing Christmas song and says 'it'll be number 1'

Strictly judge Craig Revel Horwood reckons he can give everyone a fab-u-lous Christmas… by releasing his own festive No1.

Craig is releasing a foot-tapping duet which he reckons will eclipse festive No1s from the likes of Sir Cliff Richard, Bob the Builder and Mr Blobby.

Speaking about It’s Christmas, Merry Christmas! Craig says: “ Ed Sheeran and Elton John have no chance next to my single. It’s going to be a No1.

“It’s something people can dance to, and we all want a bit of cheering up this Christmas.

“I think it will be judged as out of character for Craig Revel Horwood from the TV. But I’m a trained singer and performer, which people forget. If they don’t like it, they can lump it.”

Craig, 56 – back on Strictly last night after a mild bout of Covid – gives Sir Cliff’s 1988 Chrismas No1, Mistletoe and Wine, few marks out of 10.

He says: “You can’t dance to Mistletoe and Wine. It’s dirge compared to mine. Mine’s an upbeat jive and is going to get everyone dancing.

“It’s fantastic and timeless. It’s cheery 50s fun, like The Jersey Boys. I could make history with this… I could be like Lady Gaga, performing to sellout arenas!”

The video got the thumbs-up from Strictly’s Anton Du Beke and Craig’s fiancé Jonathan Myring, 43. “They both said, ‘Oh, it’s catchy’,” Craig reveals.

The single was co-written by West End performer Nik Page and recorded with Rietta Austin – a Strictly tour singer.

And what started off as a joke has since evolved into an album, due out next year.

Craig, who will take to the stage as the Wicked Witch in Cinderella at Southampton’s Mayflower Theatre next month, adds: “It was recorded for fun but then a friend said, ‘Actually, it’s quite good’.”

It’s Christmas, Merry Christmas! is out December 2.
