Strictly's Craig Revel-Horwood didn't expect winner Bill Bailey to make it past week 3

Strictly judge Craig Revel-Horwood is never shy with an opinion - but even he's been forced to admit he was wrong about Bill Bailey.

Comedian Bill, 55, lifted the Glitterball Trophy at the weekend with partner Oti Mabuse - the second year in a row for the pro.

And up in a final against youngsters HRVY, 21, Maisie Smith, 19 and Jamie Laing, 32, bill was applauded for waving the flag for the "over-55s."

"Bill Bailey!" he gushed, "I never expected him to get through week three, let alone to the final!"

He added to OK! magazine : "What an amazing job he did, it was amazing for the over-55s who think they can't do it - he proved you can!

"Plus I thought Maisie Smith was incredible. And Jamie! Four times in the bottom two and he made the final - anything's possible. And Ranvir was great too."

Ranvir was edged out just before the final in a controversial judging decision.

And champion Bill has no plans to stop dancing any time soon.

"I don't know about the 12 hours' training a day but certainly I'd love to carry on dancing," he told The Mirror.

Craig, meanwhile, has some choice words for former pro James Jordan, whom he blasted as "too bitter" to ever return as a judge.

James left the show back in 2013 but still tunes in and gives his unfiltered verdict on the contestants.

And Craig fired back after James commented Strictly wasn't up to scratch in 2020.

"Oh, he would say that," Craig scolded, "Honestly, we won't make amends until he stops slagging me off!

"His comments and scores on Twitter always tally up with mine. He thinks the same as I do and it makes me laugh because he clearly wants my job!"

"Not in a million years," he added of the suggestion James return as a judge, "He's too bitter, he's too twisted! We'd have a laugh on the panel – I'd put him in his place!"

The judges' bench did see a brief shake-up this year as Motsi Mabuse had to take time to isolate.

Veteran pro Anton du Beke - and his infectious positivity - filled in for Motsi for a couple of weeks.
