Strictly's Bill Bailey calls for Never Mind The Buzzcocks return after BBC axed quiz show

Strictly Come Dancing winner Bill Bailey has told how he'd love to see a return for pop quiz Never Mind the Buzzcocks, describing it as “the best fun I’ve ever had on television”.

The BBC2 show ran for 28 series from 1996, until it was axed by bosses in 2015.

Now Bailey, who was a team captain alongside Phill Jupitus for six years from 2002, says he'd be happy to see the series stage a comeback.

“I don't think there is a show that's similar now,” he said. “I don't think there is anything that's replaced it.

“It's not like they've given it a reboot and changed the format.”

He said that the old format wasn't unkind, but could be “a bit edgy”.

“Sometimes people would get a little bit riled up, but, I mean, that was the nature of the show,” he said.

“It was some of the best fun I've ever had on television. I mean, those records would go on for two hours sometimes.

“What you ended up on the screen was just a fraction of the mayhem that was actually going on. They were great fun. And people would sort of get nervous.

“Just take it in good stead. That's what we used to say to them. Just come on the show and just be yourself, and just maybe mention some kind of shenanigans you got up to.

“That's it, that's all you need to do, and then look like you're enjoying yourself. Don't get too cross.”
