Strictly's Anton Du Beke plans to lock rival Karim Zeroual in a cupboard to win

Strictly's Anton Du Beke has hatched a plan to make sure nothing gets in the way of him lifting the Glitter Ball trophy next week.

In the Strictly semi-final, Anton and his partner Emma Barton face tough competition with Karim Zeroual and Amy Dowden.

But the Strictly Come Dancing professional, 53, joked he had a good way to eliminate Karim from the competition to ensure he had a clear path to victory.

Anton jested he could lock his "quite good" rival in a cupboard - a tip he claimed to have got from someone else at a dance competition.

He shared: "Well, what I might do, someone said this little tip is lock him in a broom cupboard just before the show starts. I know you think it's quite sinister."

The dancer did confess he thought his rival was "quite good, sort of good" competition which stands between him and the Glitter Ball trophy.

He added: "He's quite good, sort of good, competition."

Anton and Emma landed two 10s, a nine and a 8 last week for their stellar performance which saw Shirley Ballas and Bruno Tonioli rise to their feet.

He elaborated: "The mind rushes when you're in that situation. We danced nicely and Shirley and Bruno were stood up first time ever standing ovation."

He joked: "I saw someone taking their chairs away up from delight. We approach them wonderful comments."

After 15 years of near misses, the dancer is determined to have nothing or no one stand in his way.

Anton's ill-fated partners have included Susannah Constantine and Gillian Taylforth with whom he placed 15th in 2018 and 2008 respectively.

He also placed 13th with Jerry Hall in 2012, and 11th with Nancy Dell'Olio in 2011.

But it's not all been bad news for Anton however, and he has got close to the Glitterball trophy before.

He placed fourth with Katie Derham in 2015, and third with Lesley Garratt in the very first series of the show in 2004.
