Strictly's Anton du Beke leaves viewers baffled with the way he pronounces Oti's name

Strictly Come Dancing fans were left baffled on Saturday night by the way stand-in judge Anton du Beke pronounced Oti Mabuse's name.

Anton once again replaced Oti's sister Motsi on the panel as she remains in self-isolation following an urgent trip to Germany and, after dancing with Oti in the pre-recorded Blackpool-inspired group number at the start of Saturday's show, he passed judgement on Oti and celeb partner Bill Bailey's latest routine.

The couple, who got a 10 last week, were the first into the ballroom this week to dance an American Smooth to Beyond the Sea and Anton, while full of praise for their footwork, annoyed viewers at home with how he said Oti.

Oti's name is pronounced Oat-ee but Anton referred to her as Ottie, when giving his critique.

He told them: "Tailsuits, top hats, canes...I don't know about Blackpool, I feel like we're in heaven.

"This is right up my street, it had everything."

Looking at Bill, he added: "You had beautiful quality across the floor. You had a wonderful top line, arm position was perfect and the thing I enjoyed about it the most was your partnering skills.

"You watch Ottie (Oti) intently and you follow her as all great male dancers do. You're there when she goes into a back bend or does some spins..."

And, while thrilled by Anton's comments to Bill and Oti, Strictly fans couldn't get over Anton's pronunciation mishap.

One tweeted: "Ottie??? Is Anton ok??" and another reacted: "ermmm anton? Oti??? Isnt it pronounced oati!??"

Twitter was quickly awash with plenty more reactions to Anton's interesting way of saying Oti, with another viewer posting: "ANTON, WHO THE F*** IS OTTIE?!?" and another writing: "did anton just mispronounce Oti’s name when they’ve been working together for five years wtf??"
