Strictly's Anton Du Beke hits back at Shirley Ballas' 'harsh' criticism of Emma Barton

Anton Du Beke has hit back at Shirley Ballas' harsh criticism of Emma at the weekend on Strictly It Takes Two today.

The pair closed the show with a Jive on Saturday but were criticised by the judges for her "laboured" dancing.

But Shirley, in particular, wasn't too impressed and said that "while there was no mistaking that she was a natural-born performer", her posture was wrong and it was "too heavy".

When the audience began to boo, Shirley snarked: "Hang on a minute, learn something".

After listing a series of faults with the dance, Shirley said that it was "quite nice".

Appearing on It Takes Two with the EastEnders actress today, Anton pointed out that they had found it tough to practice around Emma's day job.

"It's quite difficult because there's quite a bit going on with her day job," Anton said. "Going straight in with the jive, I didn't make it easy."

Meanwhile Emma insisted that, despite juggling two jobs she needed to remember that she's "very lucky" she's on "two of the biggest shows" at the moment.

Earlier on during It Takes Two, Rylan was left horrified as Strictly legend Vincent Simone called Michelle Visage a prostitute.

The professional dancer, who was on the BBC dancing show from 2006 until 2012, appeared on the spin-off show for Choreography Corner.

But when it came to critiquing Michelle Visage and Giovanni Pernice's dance, the discussion turned a little pear-shaped.

Rylan prompted Vincent by saying that she was "great" doing the Cha cha cha.

Vincent replied: "For me, she was like a lady of the night."

As he was about to continue, Rylan gasped and said: "A what?!"

"That has a very different meaning from where I come from," Rylan replied wryly.

At the weekend, Michelle and Giovanni wowed the judges with their performance and was awarded a huge 30, including 8s from Craig Revel Horwood and Motsi Mabuse.

She was sat just behind Kelvin and Oti and Karim and Amy, who scored 32 and 31 respectively.

Meanwhile at the bottom were James and Luba with 11 and Chris and Karen with 13.
