Strictly’s Angela Scanlon left in tears as she addresses shock exit alongside dance partner Carlos Gu

Strictly Come Dancing star Angela Scanlon was left in tears as she addressed her exit from the series on Monday’s It Takes Two.

The One Show presenter and her professional partner Carlos Gu, 30, were voted off during Sunday’s show following their dance-off with actor Layton Williams and Nikita Kuzmin.

Reflecting on her journey after watching a reel of her show highlights, the TV star, 39, was overcome with emotion and had to be comforted by Gu, 30, before admitting that it “stung” to leave.

She shared: “There’s been a few standout moments.

“I feel really grateful for them. In life, in this glorious madness, you can have a steady road, either middle of the road and have quite a smooth journey.

“I’ve always felt like those ups and downs are better for you to feel things deeply, whether that’s right down there or right up there,” she continued.

Scanlon’s dance partner comforted her while they watched their highlights on the series (BBC)

“Charleston, week three and top of the leaderboard – this kind of took us totally by surprise and it was so joyful and glorious.

“The Argentine Tango in Blackpool, for me, which is possibly why this stings so much to come a week later.”

During Sunday’s dance-off, the Irish presenter narrowly missed out on a place in the quarter finals after performing her cha-cha-cha to Gloria Gaynor’s I Will Survive again.

Williams and his professional partner Nikita Kuzmin also took to the ballroom to perform their American Smooth to Magic Moments by Perry Como, which originally earned them 34 points.

Following both routines, the judges delivered the verdicts, with only Shirley Ballas revealing she would have saved the BBC star over the West End performer.

Ballas said at the time: “Well, important for me always when it comes to Ballroom and Latin is the character of the dance, that it’s true to the dance, timing and quality and I would have voted for Angela and Carlos.”
