Strictly's AJ Odudu shares extent of her injury from hospital after final heartbreak

Strictly Come Dancing star AJ Odudu has revealed the extent of her injury after being forced to pull out of Saturday's live final, telling fans she did everything she could to try and get on the dancefloor.

Fans of the BBC show were left devastated on Friday afternoon when a tweet from the Strictly Twitter account announced her exit from the show, reading: "Sadly due to injury AJ and Kai have had to withdraw from #Strictly and won’t compete in tomorrow’s final. We want to thank them for 13 incredible weeks on the show and the pure joy they brought to the dance floor every week."

The sad news comes after AJ injured ligaments in her leg during training for the final earlier this week, which left her on crutches and unable to dance.

The TV host told fans she was getting 'the best medical care' and was keeping everything crossed she'd be able to dance in the Strictly final but sadly she ended up having to withdraw.

In the wake of Strictly announcing her and Kai's withdrawal, AJ took to social media to post a picture of herself on a hospital bed wearing a surgical moon boot.

She captioned it: Peace out @bbcstrictly It's been a blast."

AJ also posted a lengthy statement about having to miss out on the final, writing: "I've had ultrasounds, MRIs and xrays. I've had two incisions to drain the inflammation around my ankle.

"I've injected local anaesthetic directly into my foot, I've been strapped up to an ice compression machine for days.

"I've done all I can possibly do to get back on my feet for the Strictly final, I even asked docs if I could perform in my medical moonboot!

"But the fact is I can't even stand on my feet let alone dance, because I've torn my spring ligament."

AJ paid tribute to Kai saying it had been "an incredible honour" to dance with him for the last 13 weeks and revealing he was ready to be her "human crutch" on the dancefloor.
