Strictly's AJ and Kai awkwardly quizzed on romance rumours after mic picked up comment after dance

Strictly Come Dancing stars AJ Odudu and Kai Waddrington have been awkwardly quizzed after their mics picked up one major comment.

The TV presenter and Strictly's new pro dancer appeared on the BBC competition's spin-off show It Takes Two on Wednesday night.

They joined Janette Manrara on the weekday programme when the dance brought up the romance rumours circulating about the pair.

"Speaking of romance and the characters, you were both saying you wanted to bringing romance to the floor and I think you really did because Kai you said this at the end of the performance...." she said with a wink before a clip was shown.

It showed AJ and Kai at the end of their Movie Week dance on Saturday night to Whitney Houston's 'I have nothing' from The Bodyguard.

At the end of their performance, Kai was heard saying to AJ: "Aww I I love you, I love you so much," as the pair shared an embrace on the dance floor.

"Here we go," Kai muttered with a nervous laugh as the clip played out.

Trying to eliminate the awkwardness, Janette said: "It was happiness! Do you find that you're getting a bit of a deeper connection in this partnership?"

As they both laughed, Kai said: "I think that was all down to just the tough, tough week that we had and the fact that we got to the end of the performance and it was flawless and you smashed it, and you did all the lifts brilliant, did all the technique perfect.

"We were both just relieved, you were just gripping onto my neck!"

Janette's question comes after Strictly co-star Gorka Marquez spilled the beans on the so-called 'Strictly Curse' alongside his fiance Gemma Atkinson.

Appearing on Steph's Packed Lunch earlier this week, Gemma asked Gorka: "What's going on, spill?" as romance rumours swirled around AJ and Kai.

But Gorka said the pair are 'just good friends.'

He replied: "Nothing, from what I know they're just good friends and just dancing together.

"I think that people think 'there's chemistry there' but that's what you want people to think.

"They're selling a love story. They're doing that and their job is great.

"This is just a performance."
