Strictly's Adam Peaty splits from Welsh girlfriend Eiri Munro

Olympic gold medallist Adam Peaty has confirmed he and his Welsh girlfriend have broken up. In a post on social media Adam, 27, apologised to long-term girlfriend Eiri Munro for "letting you down".

Strictly star Adam, who has three Olympic gold and two Olympic silver medals, met his girlfriend via dating app Tinder while they were both studying at Loughborough University. They were first pictured together on New Year's Eve 2020 and, after just two months of dating, Welsh artist Eiri discovered she was pregnant and the couple formally announced the news in April 2020.

The pair welcomed their son George in September 2020 and Adam said the couple's priority amid their breakup was ensuring they provide "the happiest and healthiest home environment" for him. Eiri and the couple's son were pictured cheering Adam on at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham only weeks ago where he claimed gold in the men's 50m breaststroke.

Sharing a lovely snap of the couple with young George on Instagram on Tuesday evening Adam wrote: "Eiri and I have decided to go our separate ways. We have enjoyed a wonderful three years together, two of those with our gorgeous son George.

"Our priority has always been to provide the happiest and healthiest home environment for him, and right now that means ending our romantic relationship. I could not ask for a greater mother for George and I am so grateful to Eiri for her amazing support over the last three years.

"Eiri and George, I’m sorry for letting you down. My only interest is for the well-being of our family at this difficult time so I ask that our privacy is respected and I won’t be saying anything further."

Eiri has since taken to her Instagram story to give an insight into the breakup. She posted: "Family, friends and followers: The last three years have been so, so amazing. Our little family has experienced so much laughter and love and joy. You guys have been such a significant part of that!" she wrote. "This next chapter of my life is surely going to be an incredibly difficult one. I would appreciate that people would refrain from commenting, speculating or messaging. I have shared so much of my life, but for now I'm choosing privacy and I hope that you will all respect that.

"I love and appreciate you all so much and I'm so thankful for all the fun and opportunities you've given me. I am going to be taking a break from social media, so goodbye for now. Thankyou so much for everything."
